Glenn Beck’s “We Surround Them” and The 9.12 Project

Today Glenn Beck unveiled the first step in the “We Surround Them” strategy to take back our country for the people.  With a packed New York City studio and huge groups of participants and viewers in cities across the nation, he spoke right to the heart of America, but even more importantly, he provided incentive, opportunity, and encouragement for Americans to speak to each other.

Beginning with a chronicle of the events leading up to and following September 11, 2001, Glenn described how the nature of Americans changed drastically within a three-day period.  On 9/10, American’s had their heads in the sand, busy going about their business.  On 9/11, Americans were running scared, frightened, confused, and vulnerable.  On 9/12, the strength of America emerged from the wreckage in the form of it’s average, everyday citizenry as we joined together to voice our outrage, our patriotism, and our sympathy for those whose lives were sacrificed to treachery.

Today Glenn asks, “Which kind of American are you?”

Are you a 9/10 American with your head stuffed into the sand?

Are you a 9/11 American, fearful and immobilized?

Or are you a 9/12 American, strong, united, and plenty intelligent enough to know what you want for your country and to know that we’re headed in the wrong direction to preserve our Constitution and the freedoms sanctified therein?

I hope I am a 9/12 American, but I feel just as helpless as many of my friends have noted lately, that even though we vote and take part in the political process on an individual basis, being a concerned citizen in this country, believing in principles and values not lauded by our mainstream media, feels a bit lonely at times.  Glenn noted that people feel shut up, afraid, and alone because of political correctness.  We have strong beliefs, but are encouraged by visible political figures and celebrities to keep quiet in the name of being politically correct.

So Glenn brings in Ben Sherwood, author of “The Survivors Club,” who has engaged in extensive research with the intent of discovering exactly what encourages an individual and a society to survive.  His conclusions?  Survivorship is about community.  And when Sherwood interviewed the ultimate in ultimate survivors, a man living in Pensacola, FL (if I followed the dialogue correctly), he responded, without hesitation, that the most influential factor for which he accredits his survival, was his faith in God.

And so the challenge begins (and I paraphrase), “Start meeting with your friends around the kitchen table.  Talk about the country . . . . Talk about the principles . . . . Talk about our Founding Fathers,” says Glenn.  Discard the shackles of political correctness and engage in open, honest dialogue about the issues you see facing our country today.  And educate yourself.  Throughout the course of this television hour, Beck provided a litany of book titles for those with a desire to learn and absorb the true meaning of democracy:

The Five Thousand Year Leap, by Cleon Skousen

The Real George Washington, by Parry, Allison, Skousen

The Survivor’s Club, by Ben Sherwood

Black Belt Patriotism, by Chuck Norris

Lone Survivor, by Marcus Luttrell

Says Glenn, “Our government told us to go shopping [to save the economy]. . . . but what we need is to reconnect with these nine principles and 12 values.”

The Nine Principles

1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

12 Values

  • Honesty
  • Reverence
  • Hope
  • Thrift
  • Humility
  • Charity
  • Sincerity
  • Moderation
  • Hard Work
  • Courage
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Gratitude

During the report, Glenn also announced a new website, powered by the largest server Fox News could find, which after one commercial break had been completely overloaded.  :0)  I believe it is actually still inaccessible due to the large volumes of beleaguered Americans desperate for a glimmer of hope.

So, in the name of fostering open dialogue, here are some of the upcoming events I will be attending to stand up and make my voice heard.  I encourage you to find patriotic demonstrations in your own area, attend, and be heard.  Besides attending the following rallies, I will also be attempting to organize a regular meeting of the minds for my friends and neighbors interested in discussing the challenges our nation faces today.  Again, I echo Beck and encourage you to do the same in your neighborhood.  Let’s start the discussion and keep the dialogue going.

1. Send a tea bag to Washington on April 1st.  We are no fools.  This will cost you no more than 2 minutes, an envelope, a spare tea bag, and a stamp.  You can do this.  For more information, click here.

2. Attend a Tax Day Tea Party or start one if there hasn’t been one organized for your city already.  One hundred and fifteen cities around the nation have already signed up to be a part of this.  That’s 1-1-5, folks!  If that doesn’t send a clear message of discontent and a need for real “change,” I cannot imagine what else will.  Someone please remind me why America voted this guy into power in the first place?  Please?

My own dear city of San Diego will be having a Tax Day Tea Party first on Saturday, April 11, 2009, in order to allow the hard-working people of this gorgeous place to rally for their voice and their money and their way of life, then again on Wednesday April 15, 2009, at post offices around the county.  Click on the links to view more information about location and contacts.  See you there!

Thank you so much for believing in the people of this great country. It is time to take our country back from all of the thieves in Washington. I cried with Pride and Hope today as I watched some of our Hero's. If real men don't cry then I guess I don't want to be a real man. God Bless

Great recap, girl! I haven't watched it yet but am soooo looking forward to tomorrow's viewing - and to organizing my first 9.12 discussion group. It feels like I already get those going on Facebook, lol, but face to face is always best. How thankful am I to stand with you and so many other great people as we work to bring our great nation back to its amazing roots.

May I suggest BLACK LISTED TEA BAGS!

Congress love to talk the talk but they don't walk the walk! Yesterday the Senate confirmed David Ogden as deputy attorney general today by a 65-28 vote.

Ogden opposes restrictions on abortion and pornography, and has represented Playboy and Penthouse in court. He previously filed a brief before the U.S. Supreme Court in support of child pornographer Stephen Knox, who possessed sexually explicit videos of children. Ogden argued that, because the children's genitalia were partially covered by clothing, such exploitation is protected by the First Amendment.

Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., expressed his strong opposition to Ogden's nomination in a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday. But what about the 65 members of the Senate who voted for this man?

Do they stand for these PRINCIPALS? NO they DO NOT because if they did, they would not have voted for this man!

It's going to take a lot more than a few tea bags to fix what's wrong in congress but we have to start somewhere! For everyone who voted in favor of Odgen let's send each of them a letter telling them have been "BLACK TEA LISTED" by "We Surround Them" And just what does that mean?

No interviews on TV and not one dime of our money, if asked for a donation.

To see how your Senator voted go to the link below. On the list are Republican names like Alexandar, McCain, Graham, Gregg, Bond, Collins, Kyl, Lugar, Snow, Spector, and Voinovich!

Well my comment might not be like the others, but what a wonderfully big ordeal was made of the "We surround them" theme. What a waste of time, nothing was brought to the fore front of what the "purpose" of the show was, our out of control Government. I'm sure many people tuned in who never would have and what do we get, another interview with Marcus and others that we have all heard and seen before (and that we made millionaires)! BUT NOTHING ABOUT TAKING OUR COUNTRY BACK AND THE CORRUPTION IN THE GOVERNMENT TODAY. We all feel bad for those who have lost their lives and the families left behind during this current war, but does everyone know that in the past whole families fathers, sons, daughters were killed during WW1, WW2, the Korean war and so on. Such an opportunity to inform the otherwise oblivious people in the USA to what is happening - GONE TO WASTE!

Black Tea Listed. I love it, Charlotte! Excellent idea. Thank you so much for sharing. And thanks for the link, too. The amount of questionable people that are being lifted up into positions of power in our country is amazing. Children and children's rights need protectors, champions. Not predators!

Deborah,

I am sorry that you felt the We Surround Them show was a waste of time. I (obviously) feel the exact opposite. You see, I think most people recognize that organizing some massive protest would not only be unrealistic but detrimental in this economy. People need to work to keep their jobs and keep food on the table. But what Beck has given us is the very realistic encouragement to become politically aware again. Generally, we vote. And we do so based on what television and friends tell us. And that's it. There are not enough of us actually researching issues, finding out how our local representatives are voting on specific legislation, etc. Beck emphasized, and I believe this was the point of the show, that we need to stop worrying so much about being politically correct and start talking again, finding strength to survive what's ahead by forging friendships based on concurring beliefs. And if the American people begin to open honest political discussion again, we will be much stronger by far than the individual, hopeless floaters we have been.

Glen,so glad some one is speaking for us.We all need to call our senators, congress, reps. We need them to know they work for us.Also Hollywood is our down fall, since when do they tell us how to vote or what to think. We need to take back our morals and demand they make movies, music that we want our kids to see or hear. They make millions and think their morals are how we should live, drugs, sex, gay marriage,we should love and respect all people ,but we have a right to believe that it is not right to have sex with any one, have kids out of wedlock,or gay marriage. Also news media that only show far left side we should not watch or buy the products, that advertise with them ,call the advertizer, and the networks tell them you want the truth,Obama would not be president had they reported the truth Sheila

Tea companies will rejoice!

A tea bag for every member of the household should be sent, not just one. I want to see if the president will have a cup of tea in his hand every time he speaks (no less than I would expect of someone so pompous), or if he will actually act as if he gets the point.

We DO surround them. Most of this nation did not attend the prescribed Ivy League colleges to be considered intellectually viable to our elected officials, and it is about time we showed them how wrong they are.

PS. We are calling the "tea party" the "Austin Tea Party" in Texas. :)

Here's the leading video in Glenn Beck's national video contest for his Arguing with Idiots book. It makes fun of the progressive view of "New America" and promotes the ideals of the 9.12 project:
